If you’re running a Black-led nonprofit, there’s a good chance you’ve wondered: “How do we get more corporate sponsors?”
Here’s the thing—corporations give billions every year, but only 4% of total charitable giving comes from businesses. And guess what? Most of that money goes to the same big-name organizations.
So how do we, as Black-led nonprofits, break into the corporate giving world?
It starts with the right approach. Corporations aren’t just giving out free money—they’re making investments in communities, social responsibility, and brand reputation. That means we have to pitch them in a way that shows what they gain by supporting us.
Here’s what works:
• Show them the impact – They want to see numbers, real stories, and measurable change.
• Offer visibility – Can you promote their brand at an event, in a newsletter, or through social media?
• Leverage employee engagement – Many companies love initiatives that let their employees volunteer or mentor.
Black-led nonprofits have an incredible story to tell. The challenge is getting corporations to listen. And they will—if we start speaking their language.
